Loch Thom Recognised at the Scottish Civil Engineering Awards

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates George Leslie Ltd on picking up the Innovation Award for the improvement work at Loch Thom Reservoir in the Scottish Civil Engineering Awards 2020-21; understands that the company was the lead contractor on Scottish Water’s £6.9 million investment project at Loch Thom, in Inverclyde, to help safeguard the reservoir in the face of risks associated with climate change and allow a greater volume of water to be drawn from it when required; notes that the Scottish Civil Engineering Awards are jointly managed by the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Scotland and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Scotland; considers the awards to be the premier showcase for engineering excellence in the built environment, celebrating innovation and the vital contribution that civil engineers make to designing, upgrading and maintaining Scotland’s critical infrastructure; understands that Loch Thom was the first Scottish Water construction project to restart after the initial COVID-19 lockdown when the contractors George Leslie Ltd put significant measures in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of workers, demonstrating best practice to enable other construction sites throughout Scotland to restart; further understands that the judging panel commended George Leslie Ltd, Scottish Water, and Mott MacDonald for using innovative solutions to avoid any interruption to services for the 100,000 people in Greenock, Port Glasgow, Lochwinnoch and the surrounding areas who rely on Loch Thom for water supplies, and applauds all the teams involved in the project on receiving this award.
