Jenna Stewart Wins BBC Young Composer of the Year Award 2021
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Aberdeen musician and composer, Jenna Stewart, on winning the BBC Young Composer of the Year Award 2021; understands that the annual competition, run by BBC Radio 3 and the BBC Concert Orchestra, invites 12- to 18-year-old students to submit their own original music compositions; notes that Jenna’s winning piece for two sopranos and her own spoken voice, called Lost Times, explores the theme of the changing landscape in the Scottish Highlands; recognises that winning the competition in her category, along with one other student, will enable Jenna to work with a mentor composer on a project with the BBC’s Concert Orchestra, culminating in a performance or broadcast; congratulates the 529 entrants and aspiring composers involved with the competition, and wishes Jenna every success as she pursues music at university after taking a gap year.
