Lodged by Mercedes Villalba Standard Motion 6 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament regrets Virgin Money’s decision to close 12 branches in Scotland; notes that this follows the loss of 31 Post Office branches across the country; believes that these bank and Post Offices branches remain the only means for many older and vulnerable people to access cash and other essential financial services; calls on the UK Government to establish a legal right to access cash and a public bank through the Post Office network and for the Scottish Government to engage with it on establishing a legal right to access cash, and urges the Scottish Government to identify additional public services that can be delivered through Post Office branches in order to improve their long-term sustainability.
