Celebrating the Career of Maureen Mckenna

That the Parliament recognises the tremendous contribution to society of Maureen McKenna OBE; understands that Maureen started her educational career at Dyce Academy in August 1982, went on to teach in schools across Scotland including Ellon Academy in Aberdeenshire, Northfield Academy in Aberdeen, and Kilsyth Academy in Glasgow, where she became Assistant Head Teacher, before joining Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education, and latterly, since 2007, as Director of Education for Glasgow City Council; commends her commitment to public service, and to the provision of the highest standards of educational provision possible for generations of children across Scotland; notes her achievement in establishing the Malawi Leaders of Learning charity in 2012, and forging enduring links with Malawi to improve opportunity in what it understands is one of the world’s poorest countries; notes her achievements as an international basketball referee, and vice-chair of Basketball Scotland, and wishes her well in a long and happy retirement.
