110th Taiwanese National Day
The motion
That the Parliament passes on its warmest wishes to the Republic of China (Taiwan) on the occasion of the celebration of its 110th National Day, known as Double Ten Day, on 10 October 2021; notes that the holiday marks the anniversary of the Wuchang Uprising, which eventually led to the establishment of the Republic of China; understands that this year’s celebration will involve parades from its armed forces as well as a programme of cultural performances; considers Taiwan to be a valuable partner for Scotland and the United Kingdom, in particular as the fourth largest overseas market for Scotch whisky in 2020; expresses hope that the event will be a safe and enjoyable experience for all involved, despite the limitations of the COVID-19 pandemic, and wishes the Taiwanese diaspora in Scotland a happy celebration.
