Scottish Professor, David MacMillan, Awarded Nobel Prize for Chemistry
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Professor David MacMillan in being awarded the 2021 Nobel Prize in chemistry for his work in the development of asymmetric organocatalysis (AO); notes that David, who is a professor at Princeton University, was born in New Stevenston, and obtained his undergraduate chemistry degree at the University of Glasgow in 1991 before moving to the United States to commence his postgraduate studies; recognises the significance of AO in developing drugs for treatment of conditions such as Alzheimer’s and cancer; thanks David for his extraordinary efforts in the research of molecular construction, and wishes him every success in his future endeavours in chemistry.
