Corey Beaton, Saltire Ambassador Award Winner
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Corey Beaton on winning the Saltire Ambassador Award and the 500-hours Saltire Prize in recognition of his volunteering role with Inverclyde Community Fund and for helping to raise significant funds for community charities; understands that the 21-year-old former SYP Member helped raise £3,000 for Ardgowan Hospice’s youth counselling project as a tribute to his late mum, Lorna, who died in 2019 from cancer; acknowledges that Corey also played a significant role in organising the recent Inverclyde Stride event, which has helped raise thousands for charities in the area; recognises that the volunteering organisation, CVS Inverclyde, has described Corey as an "inspiration and an incredible role model"; notes that the Saltire Awards are organised by the Scottish Government to celebrate, recognise and reward the commitments, contribution and achievements of volunteers in Scotland who are aged from 12 to 25; hopes that Corey’s dedication will inspire young people in Inverclyde to take up volunteering and see for themselves the difference that they can make to people’s lives and their own community; thanks him for the time that he has devoted to helping Ardgowan Hospice and other charities in the area, and wishes Corey all the best for the future.
