South Ayrshire Council Falls Behind the Rest of Scotland

Lodged by Sharon Dowey Standard Motion 14 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament notes with concern the recent best value assurance report for South Ayrshire Council, which has been released by the Accounts Commission; understands that it unearthed a series of issues with the management of the local authority, suggesting that there are problems with the transparency of council meetings and reports, an estimated funding gap up to 2029-30 and issues with street cleanliness and care services; believes that the Scottish Government must set out what support it will give the local authority to reduce the estimated funding gap of between £59 million and £69 million; considers that these performance reports must start including areas of poor performance as opposed to solely focusing on positive areas, and hopes that South Ayrshire Council will act on the recommendations of the Commission.
