The Launch of Edinburgh's First-ever International Poetry Festival
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes Edinburgh's first-ever international poetry festival; acknowledges that the festival aims to challenge perceptions of what poetry is and how it will be enjoyed; notes that Edinburgh audiences were able to attend in-person performances of contemporary poetry, spoken word and hip-hop from around 60 poets; acknowledges that the idea for the Push the Boat Out Festival came from Jenny Niven, the former head of literature at Creative Scotland, and co-founder Kevin Williamson, a writer, publisher and co-founder of the Edinburgh-based literary company, Neu! Reekie!, and notes that the Push the Boat Out Festival is also launching the Poetry Mile initiative, which allows users to experience Edinburgh filtered through the eyes and ears of some of the country’s finest poets, through a dedicated web app.
