McLaren Packaging Joins the UN’s Race to Zero Initiative
The motion
That the Parliament commends McLaren Packaging, which supplies a range of paper-based packaging, for joining the UN's Race to Zero initiative, which encourages companies to reduce their carbon footprint; notes that the Port Glasgow-based firm has already installed 375kW of solar panels at its plant to produce renewable energy, and has invested over £5 million in recycling equipment, using food waste sourced from customers to fuel production of the material that is used to make its packaging; understands that this move will also help the Scottish whisky industry to reduce its carbon footprint, as £35 million of McLaren’s annual revenue comes from supplying packaging for the industry, making up a significant proportion of its business; hopes that McLaren Packaging will inspire other businesses in Inverclyde and across Scotland to make their operations more eco-friendly, and wishes the business all the best for the future.
