Scottish Athletics Official, Richard O'Grady, from Tullibody

The motion

That the Parliament commends Richard O'Grady, from Tullibody, on his receipt of a prestigious award for officiating in athletics; understands that the qualified Scottish Athletics Official has won the Raymond Hutcheson (RH) Trophy for services to officiating; believes that Richard is currently leading the starter's groups and has helped make athletics events happen across Scotland this year post-lockdown; understands that during the lockdown period, he ensured that he involved himself in every team member’s welfare, set up regular virtual catch-up meetings, put together newsletters and ensured that everyone was okay, and if anyone needed anything he would try to make it happen; considers that the RH Trophy for Services to Officiating is one of only two awards available for officials with the other being the Technical Official of the Year, which Richard was short-listed for also; notes that starting as an endurance runner to keep fit, he has been involved in athletics for almost 50 years, and congratulates Richard on his commitment to his role as qualified official starter and on his dedication towards the entire team and their wellbeing.
