Long Service Award for Rhona Aikman

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Rhona Aikman, a general practice nurse at Gourock Medical Practice, on receiving the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS) community award for long service; notes that Rhona has spent 31 years in primary care and was one of 27 nurses across Scotland to be honoured in the online ceremony; understands that Rhona has volunteered all over the world during her career, having spent time looking after indigenous tribes along the Amazon River and also in Namibia as a support worker and medic; notes that Rhona previously raised money for a diabetes charity by taking on a 460-mile cycle from Saigon to the Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia after her niece was diagnosed with the condition; understands that the kind-hearted nurse has also worked with the Simon Community in Glasgow, helping to run a drop-in meal service for homeless people; commends Rhona’s commitment to helping others, both in her role as a nurse and also as a volunteer, and wishes her well for the future.
