The motion

That the Parliament commends the community group, Friends of Victoria and Westburn Park, on its £130,000 plans to restore Victoria Park’s granite fountain; recognises that the fountain, crafted in 1880 by the Granite Polishers and Master Builders of Aberdeen, uses different types of pink and silver granite from each of the 14 famous granite quarries of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, including Rubislaw, Corrennie, Kemnay and Peterhead; understands that funding has come from Aberdeen City Council’s Common Good Fund, Aberdeen City Heritage Trust, and the FCC Communities Foundation; notes that the fountain was designed by the Aberdeen architect, JB Pirie, and further notes that Victoria Park, which was opened in 1871 and named after the monarch of the time, Queen Victoria, celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2021.
