NHS Grampian Celebrates its 200th TAVI Heart Procedure

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates NHS Grampian on carrying out its 200th transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) heart procedure, two years after the NHS board began offering these procedures to patients; understands that TAVI procedures give patients, who may be at high risk of complications, an alternative to open-heart surgery; further understands that the TAVI procedure does not require patients to be put under a general anaesthesia, with most not requiring intensive care; recognises that most patients who receive the TAVI procedure spend up to two days in hospital, being discharged soon after, and considers that this procedure is greatly beneficial to patients in the north of Scotland, meaning they can receive potentially lifesaving treatment closer to home.
