Vanilla Ink The Smiddy of Banff

The motion

That the Parliament notes the success of The Smiddy, a silversmithing and jewellery school operated by Vanilla Ink in the Banffshire & Buchan Coast town of Banff; welcomes the news that it has hired new staff, continuing what it sees as the rebirth of the craft of silversmithing in the north east; understands that Banff has been celebrated for centuries as a centre of excellence of the craft, which has experienced a revival in the past three years, in large part due to the efforts of this project; highlights the importance of social enterprises, like Vanilla Sky, which, it believes, offer creative opportunities, skills development, and business support to young people and emerging makers in the area, improving life skills and mental health in their communities, and wishes everyone involved in the project continued success in the future.
