New Year’s Day Trading

Lodged by Jackie Baillie (Scottish Labour) Standard Motion 10 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament is disappointed at the Scottish Government's reported refusal to close large stores on New Year’s Day and give shopworkers what it considers to be a well-deserved day off; acknowledges how hard that shopworkers work, especially throughout the COVID-19 pandemic; believes that this had an impact on workers' mental and physical health; continues to support USDAW in what it sees as its commendable efforts to advocate for the rights of retail workers, and believes that the Scottish Government must urgently reconsider its decision, and give retail workers a much-deserved day off on New Year’s Day.
