Aberdeen City Council and BP Partnership

Lodged by Maggie Chapman (Scottish Green Party) Standard Motion 4 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament expresses concern regarding reports of Aberdeen City Council and BP forming a commercial partnership to build a hydrogen production hub in Aberdeen, in light of reports by openDemocracy of covert surveillance by BP of environmental activists; understands that this partnership is in addition to a previous agreement for BP to become the planning and technical adviser on net zero to Aberdeen City Council; believes that, alongside recent reports, BP's record on workers' health and safety, and its contribution to the climate and ecological crises, should give pause to local authorities and other public bodies about future partnership agreements of this nature; commends the investigative journalism of openDemocracy and other media outlets, and recommends that Aberdeen City Council reviews its partnerships with BP, and what it considers other polluting industries, in recognition of what it sees as the need for genuine climate action, and a socially just transition.
