Charity Sector Overview Report by the Scottish Charity Regulator
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the publication of the latest edition of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) report, An Overview of the Scottish Charity Sector 2021; understands that the report sets out a snapshot of the current state of the rich and diverse charity sector in Scotland, which includes community groups, religious charities, schools, universities, grant-giving charities and care providers; notes that the report shows that Scottish charities have a combined annual income of over £13 billion, which, OSCR suggests, makes the sector of similar size to the Scottish NHS; further notes the report's findings that Scotland’s registered charities employ over 200,000 staff, with two thirds of the charity organisations being run entirely by volunteers; commends charity employees and volunteers for their continued work, and believes that, through its regulation and registration responsibilities, OSCR has played an important role in building public trust in Scotland’s charities, which, it reports, is at its highest level since it began to measure this in 2009.
