Lodged by Michael Marra (Scottish Labour) Standard Motion 10 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the calls for the actor Brian Cox CBE to be granted the freedom of Dundee, his home City; believes that Cox has carved out a long and successful career on stage and in film, starting out from his work as a young man at Dundee’s Repertory Theatre; recognises that Cox was born into a large family who is understood to have faced significant economic challenges; further understands that those formative days would give the young actor the drive and encouragement to turn his talent into a career that has seen him play characters as diverse as Trotsky, Hannibal Lecter, Churchill and Shakespeare’s Titus, and continues today with award-winning appearances on screen as the fictional Dundonian, Logan Roy, in the drama Succession; congratulates the actor on the publication of his recent autobiography, and looks forward to many more years of his work.
