Carers Rights Day 2021

The motion

That the Parliament notes that Carers Rights Day will take place on 25 November 2021; recognises that Carers Rights Day provides an opportunity to ensure that carers are aware of their rights and let them know where to get help and support, while raising awareness of their needs; notes the findings of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Working Lives Scotland 2021 report, which show that 16% of those caring for adult relatives, and 11% of those with child caring responsibilities, say that they "find it difficult to do their job properly", compared with just 4% of those without caring responsibilities; believes that the Parliament should use its powers around social security to help narrow this gap, and ensure that carers have the tools and support that they need, and further believes that removing the 21 hour study rule from the new Scottish Carer’s Assistance benefit, which will replace the Carer’s Allowance, could help to ensure that carers can engage with the skills development system, and are not held back in terms of career development.
