The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Dumfries Slow Fashion Movement on its launch of Re:Dress Dumfries, an exciting slow fashion showcase that took place at the historic Theatre Royal on Friday 29 October 2021; recognises that the event highlighted the work of a number of local artists and designers who use recycled and ecologically-sourced materials to create sustainable clothing and other forms of fashion and art; understands that fashion reportedly accounts for around 10% of global greenhouse gasses and that it is welcome that many fashion companies, outlets and designers are working to combat the global climate emergency, including through slow fashion; further understands that the Dumfries Slow Fashion Movement is part of a wider grass roots movement of communities across the world taking action to address climate change and reduce their own carbon footprint in whatever way they can, and appreciates the importance of such actions as world leaders meet in Glasgow for COP26 and aim to reach an agreement on how to tackle climate change at a global level, and to ensure global warming does not exceed 1.5 degrees.
