The motion

That the Parliament commends the efforts of Stirling High School pupils on their successful collection for the charity, Start Up Stirling; understands that in the two weeks from 21 October 2021 the students collected 132.2 kgs of food for the charity's foodbank service; expresses concern at reports that the level of referrals for the charity's crisis food support service remains above pre-pandemic levels, and that it is currently supporting over 400 people per week, a third of whom are children; understands that the difficult financial circumstances that many families face in autumn 2021 due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have led to a sharp increase in referrals for crisis food support; further understands that, in turn, this placed an unprecedented strain on foodbank stock levels and that the charity launched its Communities Beyond Covid appeal; highlights that this appeal aims to replenish the stock of essential food and continue to provide for families in crisis throughout the Stirling area; recognises what it sees as the positive impact that the school pupils' efforts have had on this appeal, and appreciates the hard work of the students to make a difference to those who are experiencing hardship in their communities.
