First Major Brewery to be Built in Edinburgh for Over 150 Years

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Innis & Gunn on being granted planning consent for a new £20 million brewery, to be located at Heriot-Watt University’s Research Park; understands that the site will span two-hectares and provide increased brewing capacity for the brewer’s core range, comprising of Innis & Gunn’s The Original, Lager Beer, and Session IPA, as well as other unique, cask-matured beers that will be brewed at the new site; notes that beer fans will be able to experience the process first-hand with guided tours of the brewery set to be on offer; understands that this is the first major brewery to be built in Edinburgh for over 150 years, and that it will support the brewer’s continued growth, both in the UK and internationally; considers that one of the most exciting aspects of this project is the collaboration between Innis & Gunn and Heriot-Watt University, where undergraduate and postgraduate students at the world-renowned School of Brewing and Distilling will be able to spend time on placement in the brewery and engage in on-the-job learning; understands that future collaboration between Innis & Gunn and Heriot-Watt University is envisaged in fields such as low-carbon brewing technologies, product and packaging innovation, and new product development, and commends all at Innis & Gunn on the decision to bring production, training, and research and development employment to Edinburgh.
