The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Orkney Islands Council on winning the Community Involvement category at the LGC Awards 2021 for its work during the pandemic to inform, protect and reassure local communities; notes that the Council was the only Scottish local authority to win one of the 21 categories out of what is understood to be a record-breaking 700-plus entries for this year’s awards, which recognise the achievements of those in local government across the UK; further understands that the judges of the award praised the Council for its "innovative" and "creative" response during the COVID-19 pandemic, which made "an immediate difference on a daily basis" to those in island communities that faced specific challenges as a result of the pandemic; recognises the dedication of staff and officers in local authorities across Scotland in supporting their local communities during a very challenging period, and, in particular, congratulates Orkney Islands Council's Interim Chief Executive, John Mundell, Democratic Services Manager, Maureen Spence, Council Leader, James Stockan, and all those at the Council on securing this well-deserved award.
