The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Barsail Primary School in Erskine, on achieving the Social Emotional Learning Worldwide Award, in recognition of its commitment to the PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) programme to improve pupils' mental health by developing self-control, emotional awareness and problem-solving skills, as well as Renfrewshire Nurturing Relationships Approach (RNRA) gold status, which, it understands, is the highest level of accreditation for local organisations putting relationships at the heart of approaches to become a nurturing community; commends the work of headteacher Emma Mavers, and teachers Jennifer Gibney, Lynda Kellett and Gill Gooding, who played important roles in helping the school attain the awards, by promoting social and emotional literacy in their classes; understands that the school’s virtual celebration included a video produced by pupils, in which they interviewed Barnardo’s UK PATHS programme co-ordinator, Kristy Fotheringham, and an activity that involved the children and their families writing compliments on heart-shaped pieces of paper, which will be joined together to form one big love heart and displayed at the school, and wishes the staff and pupils continued success in supporting emotional wellbeing across the Barsail Primary School community.
