The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Orkney Brewery on its latest expansion project, which, it believes, will result in new jobs, and underlines the company's commitment to making the business more sustainable; understands that Orkney Brewery is investing £300,000 to expand its visitor centre, with plans to install an on-site kegging plant and set up an improved temperature control system; further understands that the new investments will allow Orkney Brewery to be more efficient and environmentally-friendly, by removing the need to send bulk beer to England for kegging; notes that a contribution of £99,000 has been secured from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), with around five new jobs expected to be created at the site in Sandwick; congratulates Orkney Brewery on winning a Golden Award from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) in September 2021, which, it understands, made it the only brewery in Scotland to receive such an accolade for its dedication to delivering excellence and its impact on brewing in the UK; commends the family-run business for taking steps to reduce its carbon footprint, while creating local employment, and wishes Orkney Brewery’s Managing Director, Norman Sinclair, and the whole brewery team all the very best for their expansion and future.
