Books Abroad Bringing Hope to Many

Lodged by Karen Adam (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 22 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament commends what it understands is the longstanding work of north-east charity, Books Abroad, and its chairperson, Vinay Ruparelia MBE, in supporting young people in developing nations to gain an education for nearly 40 years; understands that Books Abroad aims to redistribute five million second-hand books by the end of 2021, and to bring the prospect of a better future to many of the world's poorest communities through the power of education and reading; applauds the schools, colleges, universities, and individuals across Scotland and the UK, who have participated in this project; recognises what it sees as the hugely valuable work done by Books Abroad, which, it believes, demonstrates values that are important to people living in the north east, and wishes everyone involved continued success in the future.
