ReFLEX Orkney Hits 100 Electric Vehicle Milestone
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates ReFLEX (Responsive Flexibility) Orkney on delivering over 100 electric vehicles (EVs) to Orkney through the £28.5 million project; understands that the project, which aims to create an integrated energy system (IES) in the islands, has so far delivered 103 electric vehicles that are largely on lease to local residents, with a further 41 on order; notes that the project is led by the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) with cross-sector partners including Aquatera, SMS, Community Energy Scotland, Heriot-Watt University and Orkney Islands Council, and is funded by UK Research and Innovation, through the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund; understands that Orkney has generated over 100% of its electricity demand from renewable power sources since 2013, and has over three times as many EVs per home than the UK average; further understands that the ReFLEX project has been represented at COP26, with one of the ReFLEX demo cars being used to transport delegates at the global climate change summit in Glasgow; commends all those involved with the ReFLEX Orkney project, in particular to the project's managing director, Gareth Davies, and the support of the Orkney Renewable Energy Forum (OREF), and wishes the project all the best for further success in the future.
