Welcoming UNISON's Report on Getting to Net Zero in Public Services
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the UNISON report, Getting to Net Zero in UK public services: The road to decarbonisation, which has been published in collaboration with the Public Services International Research Unit at the University of Greenwich and Transition Economics; congratulates UNISON on launching this at a hybrid event hosted in its Glasgow offices on 8 November 2021 during COP26; understands that public services, excluding transport, account for around 8% of the UK’s direct greenhouse gas emissions; believes that they play a vital role in helping to implement and coordinate plans for decarbonisation and a just transition to net zero, and that engaging with workers and trade unions through a social partnership approach is key to protecting and creating jobs; understands that UNISON has over 400 green workplace representatives actively championing the greening of public services, and encourages governments and elected representatives to read the report and reflect carefully on the analysis and recommendations.
