Celebrating Women's Bravery in Speaking Out Against Different Forms of Abuse, #FreeBritney
The motion
That the Parliament notes the findings of the recent publication by SurvivingEconomicAbuse.org, The Cost of Covid-19: Economic abuse and the pandemic, which suggests that, in the UK, one in eight adults (12.2%), or around 5.9 million people, experience economic abuse in their lifetime from a partner or family member, with 4.2 million of the victims being women; acknowledges that too many people, including in the North East Scotland region, are subject to the effects of ongoing misogynist economic physical, and mental abuse, which it believes has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown; notes that new figures record that the number of charges reported to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service related to domestic abuse in the last year were the highest since 2015-16, an increase of 9% on the previous year, and celebrates the bravery of women such as Britney Spears, and those who have supported her through the #FreeBritney campaign. in speaking out against their abusers and shining a light on the myriad causes and symptoms of abuse of women in all its forms.
