Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen, Stop Funding Arms Trade
The motion
That the Parliament notes with concern the reported continuing humanitarian crisis in Yemen; understands that reports suggest that the Saudi-led coalition has targeted civilians through attacks on homes and farms, schools and hospitals, weddings and funerals; regrets that the UK Government is reportedly continuing to sell arms to Saudi Arabia despite these sales being prohibited by UK rules where there is a clear risk that a weapon might be used in a serious violation of international humanitarian law; calls on the UK Government to suspend arms sales to Saudi Arabia, and for the Scottish Government to engage with it on this issue; understands that Scottish Enterprise continues to provide public funding to defence companies that reportedly manufacture military components used in the conflict in Yemen, and urges the Scottish Government to introduce further safeguards to ensure that this public funding is not being used to enable what it considers human rights violations, and what it sees as potential war crimes, in Yemen and other conflicts around the world.
