Nursing Support Workers’ Day 2021

Lodged by Gillian Mackay (Scottish Green Party) Standard Motion 27 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament recognises that Nursing Support Workers’ Day 2021 will be marked on 23 November; understands the title "nursing support worker" covers a number of roles across health and care settings, including healthcare support workers, carers and senior carers, care assistants and clinical support workers; recognises that the awareness day, which is organised by the Royal College of Nursing, is an opportunity to thank and show support for the estimated 35,000 cares working in adult social care and 21,500 nursing support workers in NHS Scotland, who work alongside registered nurses; recognises the valuable contribution that these support workers play in the delivery of high-quality health and care services as part of multidisciplinary teams; believes that as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, it is vital that they get the recognition that they deserve, and hopes that MSPs, decision makers, health and care providers and the public are able to demonstrate their support for nursing support workers on 23 November.
