Ng Homes and Scottish Government Partnership to Reduce Fuel Poverty and Help Alleviate Climate Challenge
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes what it sees as the ambitious project to reduce carbon emissions and fuel poverty, and promote fire safety, which is being taken forward by ng homes in high-rise housing stock in the Balgrayhill, Edgefauld, Viewpoint and Carron Estate areas of Springburn, north Glasgow; understands that it will see air source heat pumps installed on the roofs of various high-rise flats to provide heating and hot water for 600 homes, saving up to an estimated 60% of heating costs for tenants, as well as reducing energy consumption by 70% when fully complete, which it understands will be around summer 2022; commends ng homes and the Scottish Government for their combined investment of £35 million to deliver this new system and various fire safety enhancements to the properties; acknowledges the key role in delivering the project that has been played by McDermott Group Easy Heat Systems and M-Four; believes that the project will play its part in Scotland’s efforts to become net zero and alleviate climate change, saving around 684,000kg of carbon emissions, as well as helping low income families to be able to afford to heat their homes; considers that this partnership between ng homes and the Scottish Government is an excellent example of how Scotland can meet both its climate obligations globally and advance climate justice at home, and looks forward to many more similar projects being rolled out in the years ahead.
