Bertie Auld, 1938-2021
The motion
That the Parliament mourns the loss of Scottish football legend, Bertie Auld; recognises, that in his playing career, Bertie was capped three times for Scotland and made over 200 appearances in the Scottish League playing for Dumbarton, Hibernian and Celtic, for whom who he is most widely associated with; commends Bertie's winning of five league titles, three Scottish Cups, four League Cups and most notably the European Cup in 1967 during his playing career at Celtic; acknowledges his managerial career at Hamilton Academical, Dumbarton, Hibernian and Partick Thistle, topping Scotland's second tier twice with the latter two; notes Bertie's pride in his Glasgow upbringing, having been raised on Panmure Street in Possilpark and supporting the grassroots club, St Roch's, which is based in Germiston, where he was a regular fixture on the terraces encouraging young players; celebrates the impact that Bertie has had on the Scottish game, and offers its condolences to his family, friends and team mates in the wake of his death at the age of 83.
