Young People from South Lanarkshire Form the Climate Emergency Newsroom
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the young people from South Lanarkshire who formed the Climate Emergency Newsroom for the duration of COP26 in collaboration with the University of Glasgow’s Department of Politics and International Relations; understands that 80 school pupils acted as journalists as they interviewed climate leaders, advocates and scientists and explored the actions that people can take to tackle climate change; notes that they reported on topics as diverse as nuclear power, coral bleaching, palm oil, fossil fuels and the impact of climate change on gender, and believes that the reporting service, which was run by students for students, is the first of its type and provided the opportunity to take complex ideas around climate change and present them in a clear and accessible way to its target audience, specifically the primary school children of South Lanarkshire.
