Dumfries Rotary Club Celebrates 100 Years

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Dumfries Rotary Club on marking its 100th anniversary by having a celebratory lunch in the town at the Carindale Hotel, with a keynote speech from Dame Barbara Kelly; understands that the club gained its charter in 1921 and is one of the earliest to be established in Scotland; notes that the Dumfries Rotarians have sponsored many community initiatives to benefit children, young people and the wider community, including through its Sports Sponsorship Programme, which covers the expenses of young people for membership of sporting bodies, as well as their travel to and from events; welcomes its commitment to the wider international community, particularly its support of international humanitarian work, including the Water Aid, Disaster Box and Aqua Box charities, the Jaipur Limb Project in India, Mercy Ships, Mission Aviation Fellowship, the Vine Trust in South America and the Ambulance project in the Balkans; welcomes the good work that the club has carried out in its 100 years; thanks the club’s members, including its President, John Glover, for their dedication to of the community, and wishes them all every success for the future.
