The motion

That the Parliament notes that, during this year's international Awareness Week on Alcohol Related Harm, the reported scale of Scotland’s problem with alcohol must, it considers, be addressed; understands that while sales of alcohol have been gradually decreasing, in 2020 enough alcohol was sold equating to that if every adult in Scotland drank, each would have consumed 18 units per week, substantially exceeding the low risk weekly drinking guideline of 14 units for men and women; further understands that deaths directly caused by alcohol increased to 1,190 people in 2020; applauds Scottish Women’s Football for rejecting sponsorship by the alcohol industry, and welcomes the recent announcement that Park's Motor Group has become the new sponsor of the Scottish Women’s Premier League, which has been hailed as an "historic moment” by Vivienne MacLaren, chairwoman of Scottish Women’s Football; notes that Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems (SHAAP) is the renewed sponsor of the National Performance League; commends SHAAP for the work it is doing to help make the case for rejecting alcohol sponsorship, and calls on all tournaments, clubs and teams to play their part to address Scotland’s relationship with alcohol.
