Lodged by Karen Adam (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 41 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament joins countries around the world in recognising World AIDS Day on 1 December 2021 and expresses its solidarity with the millions of people living with HIV worldwide; remembers all who have died from AIDS-related illnesses; notes that, although it has been 40 years since the first cases were reported, HIV remains a global threat; highlights what it sees as the urgent need to end the inequalities that drive AIDS and other pandemics around the world; understands that, out of an estimated 6,100 people living with HIV in Scotland, only 92% are diagnosed; urges everyone to get tested for HIV, whether it is through free and confidential services at NHS sexual health clinics, charity testing services, GP surgeries, their local pharmacies or online self-testing at home; offers its thanks and support to the organisations involved with World AIDS Day, including Waverley Care, the Terrence Higgins Trust and the National AIDS Trust, and hopes that others take inspiration from their efforts.
