The motion

That the Parliament commends Renfrew High School's pupils for creating the podcast series, The Renfrew Chats, to coincide with Anti-bullying Week 2021, which ran from 15 to 19 November; understands the learner-led podcast focuses on important themes and causes and is available to young people and parents across the school community; notes that, as part of the first episode, pupils interviewed Katie Ferguson, who is the director of respectme, Scotland’s anti-bullying service; appreciates that the podcast promoted the service's campaign, One Kind Word, which highlights that positive and kind actions can stop hurtful behaviour and is underpinned by the belief that one kind word can be the turning point in changing people’s perspectives and helping to break bullying cycles; acknowledges that other activities at the school during the awareness week included its Equalities Committee compiling a lesson encouraging pupils to stand up against all types of prejudice-based bullying, the singer, KOOLKID, performing for S1 and S2 students and delivering positive mental health messages, the creation of a display composed of words that the young people considered to be kind and some pupils attending the launch of the Keep Safe Kids app, which enables anonymous reporting of bullying; notes that they co-designed this with I Am Me Scotland, which is a community charity that deals with disability hate crime, and wishes the Renfrew High pupils well with their continued efforts to promote kindness and sending out the clear message that bullying is not acceptable in any form.
