In Memory of Pat Kenny, Pacing4Pat350
The motion
That the Parliament extends its warmest wishes to Pacing4Pat350, a 14-day charity fundraising walk from Maryhill in Glasgow to St Neots, Cambridgeshire, that is planned for 24 July 2022 in memory of Pat Kenny, who was originally from Kelvindale Road, Maryhill and who moved to Cambridgeshire at the age of nine in 2003, tragically taking his own life in St Neots on 7 February 2020 at the age of just 25; acknowledges the efforts of walk organisers, George and Cindy Downey, Pat's brother and sister-in-law, who have organised the 350-mile charity walk, which will visit various locations in Glasgow in memory of Pat and pay respect to other family members who have sadly also taken their own lives; notes the route will include Balfour Street, where Pat's grandad, Joe Downey, died on 4 December 1980, Thornwood Quadrant, where Pat’s dad, Frank Kenny, died on 21 May 2010 and Sandyhills, where Pat’s great uncle, Pat McMahon, died on 13 February 2002; commends George and Cindy, who are raising funds in aid of Hector’s House, a charity that works to stop people from taking their own lives, and was established in memory of Hector Stringer, who took his own life in 2011 at the age of 18, and further commends all those involved in Pacing4Pat350 for highlighting the challenges that society has faced over many years to support those living with mental health and emotional issues, who in far too many occasions still do not feel able to seek help and support, as well as recognising the devastating impact that suicide has on families, while at the same time celebrating the life of Pat Kenny who was well-loved and is fondly remembered by his family and friends.
