Glencorse Barracks About-Turn

Lodged by Christine Grahame Standard Motion 1 supporter

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the recent decision by the UK Government on the future of Glencorse Barracks in Penicuik; understands that the barracks, which have existed since 1803 and received a £60 million revamp in the early 2000s, had previously been earmarked for closure in the 2030s, but that the UK Defence Secretary has now confirmed that they will stay open; believes that the barracks form an integral part of the community, and understands that the proposed closure was met with dismay by members of the community, many of whom campaigned for the decision to be overturned.
