The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Gillian Duffy, from Greenock, on being named the Best Volunteer in Girls’ and Women’s Football for the West of Scotland region; notes that the under-15s national team coach, who is also involved with the full international set-up, was honoured with the Scottish FA Grassroots Award for her dedication to girls’ football; recognises that the accolade comes just a few months after Gillian made history as the first woman to be appointed vice-president of the Scottish Schools Football Association; understands that the former PE teacher was commended for continuing with her commitment to football despite living with acute myeloid leukaemia for three years and undergoing a lifesaving stem cell transplant; acknowledges that, over the last 20 years, Gillian has run a number of school football sides and worked on the creation of leagues; appreciates that Gillian has also been involved in promoting wellbeing within the Scottish Schools FA; believes that this award reflects Gillian’s determination to encourage more women and girls into football, and wishes her well as she continues to devote her time and energy to the sport.
