Skate out of Darkness

That the Parliament congratulates Dumfries ice hockey team, the Solway Sharks, for its new video, Skate out of Darkness, which has been created, in partnership with the Dumfries Samaritans, to help those experiencing poor mental health and to encourage people to seek help and support for their mental health should it be required; understands that the Solway Sharks, an ice hockey team whose home rink is at the Dumfries Ice Bowl, has achieved remarkable successes over recent years, is a core part of the local community in the South West and prides itself on being a friendly club that supports and develops people of all ages, but particularly young people; understands that, in support of those experiencing mental health challenges, the team has also changed its logo to include a green ribbon to show support for mental health, has displayed a green logo on its team helmets and has created promotional t-shirts that can be purchased online; highlights that the team is particularly targeting its mental health messaging to young men who are at acute risk of worsening mental health as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, and that its take home message is for young men to pass the message to other young men that it is okay to access mental health support; thanks the Solway Sharks for their action to promote positive health and wellbeing, and encourages all to access the team's campaign online at solwaysharksdumfries.co.uk.
