Lodged by Stuart McMillan (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 18 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Nairne Gillespie, who is an S6 pupil at Clydeview Academy in Gourock, on her continued success as she pursues a career in astrophysics; recalls Motion S5M-20043, which was lodged in November 2019 and covered Nairne’s participation in the Mission Discovery programme in 2019; notes that her experiment, which explored whether artificially increasing root pressure could improve plant growth on the International Space Station, won the competition; understands that Nairne’s experiment is now being developed and is expected to be launched in May 2022 to the International Space Station as part of SpaceX Cargo Resupply Service 25, where NASA astronauts will investigate her hypothesis in space; believes that opportunities like this help to encourage young people to consider careers in STEM, and wishes Nairne all the best with her plans to study physics and astrophysics at university.
