Victory Day of Bangladesh
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges 16 December as the Victory Day of Bangladesh known as "Bijôy Dibôsh" in Bengali; notes that it is a holiday that commemorates the victory of the Allied Forces High Command in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 and the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent and sovereign nation; understands that this day is marked with a 31-gun salute at the National Parade Ground at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar with the national flag hoisted on government and semi-government offices across Bangladesh, and special prayers are offered in mosques and other places of worship to seek salvation for those who lost their lives during the Liberation War; recognises and commends what it sees as the progress of Bangladesh, and celebrates what it considers to be the strong relationship between Bangladesh and Scotland.
