The Witch Experience
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the launch of the creative writing and drama project, the Witch Experience, which aims to educate people on daily life in Orkney during the witchcraft trials of the 16th to 18th centuries; acknowledges the importance of teaching Scotland's local communities about this dark time in Scottish history, when about 2,500 people, the vast majority of them women, were executed after convictions for witchcraft; notes that the project will include creative workshops, drama workshops and a Nordic LARP, during which participants will explore the lives of those who lived through the Orkney witch trials; recognises the potential of such projects to encourage further interest in Scotland's history, and encourages all interested residents of Orkney to support and participate in the project.
