Ballantrae Becomes South Ayrshire’s Biosphere Community
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that the historic village of Ballantrae has become a Biosphere Community, the sixth to be designated within the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere; understands that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) makes its awards in recognition of attributes that are unique and of global importance; further understands that the concept of Biosphere Community is a blueprint for living, which, it believes, will not only help drive South West Scotland’s green recovery and progress towards net zero goals, but will also contribute to the biosphere’s overarching theme, of making life better for people and nature; commends what it sees as the hard work of the community and local residents, and wishes them well with their future endeavours.
