Home Heating Support Fund to Help Those Struggling with Rising Energy Costs
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the launch of the Scottish Government’s £3 million Home Heating Support Fund, which aims to help people who are struggling with their energy bills amid, what it believes, is a growing cost-of-living crisis; understands that the Fund is administered by national advice service, Advice Direct Scotland, and is designed to prevent households from falling into fuel poverty by helping those who are rationing their energy use; believes that, with reports of recent price rises and a further steep increase in bills expected in spring 2022, there are growing concerns about the impact on households; notes that payments start at £100, rising to £500 to clear outstanding debt, with the money paid directly to suppliers on behalf of the household; understands that the Home Heating Support Fund is open until March 31 2022, and that applications can be made on behalf of individuals by referral partners, such as local authorities and housing associations, as well as charities and organisations that provide energy or debt advice, and urges anyone struggling with their bills to visit the Advice Direct Scotland website, advice.scot, or contact 0808 800 9060 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, to speak to one of their specialist debt advisors for free, impartial and practical advice.
