Lydia Reid and a Public Inquiry into the Unauthorised Use of Baby Remains

That the Parliament recognises Lydia Reid who, it understands, is carrying out a hunger strike to seek justice and call for the remains of her deceased baby to be returned to her for burial; shares her concerns that, despite legislation, the remains of a deceased loved one could still be unknowingly kept from their family and even used for medical testing without the permission of the parents, which, it understands, happened in Lydia’s case; believes that Lydia is not alone and that her experience has had the same impact as the baby ashes scandal that took place in Mortonhall, between 1967 and 2011, and considers that there is a need for a public inquiry to establish the facts so that Lydia, and other families affected, can have peace and to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again.
