Save Afghan Lives Campaign
The motion
That the Parliament notes the launch of the #SaveAfghanLives campaign, which aims to escalate the widespread concern about the humanitarian disaster unfolding in Afghanistan and keep the plight of Afghans at the top of the news and political agenda; considers that there is an urgent need to accelerate political efforts to get aid into Afghanistan where reportedly 5 million children and 4 million adults are suffering from the acute effects of malnutrition, 98% of families do not have enough to eat, and an estimated 23 million people will face severe famine unless the $4.4 billion aid that the UN is appealing for is forthcoming within days; supports the Save the Children petition for the UK Government to convene an emergency aid conference of the 40 coalition nations whose departure from Afghanistan, on top of harvest failure, has, it considers, left Afghanistan facing a catastrophe, and acknowledges the view that those countries have a responsibility to respond practically and financially to the humanitarian disaster that is already underway.
